Barcelona midfielder Jonathan dos Santos is set for a lengthy absence after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training on Wednesday.
Further tests will reveal the full extent of the problem, but the Mexico international, 23, appears likely to miss much of the season.
“Jonathan dos Santos sustained an injury to the ACL in his right knee during this afternoon’s training session at the Ciutat Esportiva,” a club statement on Wednesday read. “The player will undergo additional tests in the upcoming days to determine the extent of the injury.”
Dos Santos had recently said he could seek a move away from the Camp Nou as he was eager to play regular first-team football to boost his chances of playing at the 2014 World Cup.
