Fernando Torres reaches milestone in Atletico Madrid comeback victory
Fernando Torres scored his 100th goal for Atletico Madrid as the Rojiblancos came from behind to beat Eibar 3-1 and record their first win in four matches.
Former Atletico academy player Keko gave the visitors a surprise lead at the start of the second half following an error by Saul Niguez, but Jose Maria Gimenez quickly replied for the hosts by heading home from a Koke corner.
Saul compensated for his earlier mistake by nodding in another Koke corner, and then Torres sent the Vicente Calderon into ecstasy by hitting his milestone goal in stoppage time.
Atletico's excellent season had begun to unravel in the last two weeks, drawing at home to Sevilla, exiting the Copa del Rey at the hands of Celta Vigo, and then falling three points behind Barcelona in La Liga by losing 2-1 to the Catalans with nine men.
And it looked like being another disappointing day for the capital club when Eibar took the lead.
Eibar's top scorer Borja Baston was prevented from playing against his parent club due to the terms of his loan deal, but his replacement Sergi Enrich helped put the visitors ahead after 46 minutes, dispossessing Saul and passing to Keko, who took one touch before slamming the ball past Jan Oblak.
However, Gimenez headed Atletico level just 10 minutes later, getting to Koke's outswinging corner before Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo to nod in from a yard out.
Atletico's set-piece specialist Koke also made the second goal seven minutes later, met by a powerful header from Saul. But the afternoon really belonged to substitute Torres, sliding in to tap in Luciano Vietto's low pass a minute into stoppage time.
