Emiliano Velazquez to join Atletico

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone says he will not comment on his eight-match touchline ban after watching his side play Rayo Vallecano from the stands.

Atletico Madrid will sign Emiliano Velazquez in a permanent deal and then loan him to La Liga neighbours Getafe for the 2014-15 season, the young Uruguayan defender has claimed.

Velazquez, 20, was named the Uruguayan Primera Division's best defender as his current club Danubio won the title last season. He was also named in the Uruguay's provisional World Cup squad, although he did not make the final 23.

Although nothing had yet been confirmed officially by the clubs involved, the player himself told local media outlet Tanfield that he was looking forward to making the next step in his career in Europe.

"I am going to Getafe," Velazquez said. "Contracted to Atletico and on loan to Getafe. It was what I wanted, a place where I can play, or at least challenge for a place."

A possible hitch in the deal is that Atletico have already reached the 80 million-euro limit they agreed with the La Liga authorities as their budget for the season -- meaning they must now sell or loan out players before they are allowed to sign anyone else, according to Marca.

The LFP have recently introduced this control, which is designed to ensure clubs live within their means each season, and showed they were serious last week by refusing to allow Elche to register players ahead of their season opener at Barcelona.

Atletico are also hopeful of bringing in another attacker during the current window, with ambitious moves for Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri and Alessio Cerci of Torino being mentioned in speculation, but the Rojiblancos would have to make room on the wage-bill for this to happen.

Players linked with a move away from Atletico because of this issue include versatile Belgium international defender Toby Alderweireld, who has reportedly been a target for Liverpool and Tottenham, and winger Christian 'Cebolla' Rodriguez, who has publicly said he would like to move to get first-team football elsewhere but has yet to find a suitable club.

The most likely to leave is third-choice left-back Emiliano Insua, who could move to Rayo Vallecano, the other Madrid club who have already taken Leo Baptistao on loan for the current season.

Despite the revenues from making the final of last year's Champions League, and the sales this summer of players including Diego Costa and Felipe Luis to Chelsea, Atletico remain around 400 million euros in debt and are also bound by a fixed agreement with the Spanish government to repay 200 million euros in overdue taxes.

The Calderon club have already spent about 100 million euros this summer to sign players including Mario Mandzukic, Antoine Griezmann, Guilherme Siqueira, Jan Oblak and Raul Jimenez.
