Ronaldo and Suarez share Golden Shoe

Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the Pichichi award as La Liga's leading scorer, but he had to share the European Golden Shoe with Liverpool's Luis Suarez as injury ruled the Real Madrid star out of Saturday's game against Espanyol.

Rigg: Ronaldo fitness worry

Ronaldo, 29, had been named in the starting lineup for Madrid's season finale at the Bernabeu, but he ultimately played no part in the 3-1 win as he had to withdraw after feeling discomfort in a hamstring during the warm-up.

The Portugal star has now completed a full 90 minutes in just two of his club's last 10 games due to thigh and knee issues, which is a cause for concern ahead of Saturday's Champions League final against Atletico Madrid and the looming World Cup in Brazil.

It had been widely reported that Ronaldo was keen to play against Espanyol to score the goal he required to surpass Suarez's 31 in the Premier League, but the former Manchester United man -- who had previously won the award in 2007-08 and 2010-11 -- had to settle for ending the campaign level with the Uruguayan.

However, Ronaldo's 31 goals were sufficient to see him crowned La Liga's top scorer, as he contributed three more than second-placed Lionel Messi, who had secured the prize last year. It was the lowest Pichichi-winning tally since Dani Guiza of Real Mallorca took the prize with 27 in 2007-08.

A statement on Real Madrid's official website congratulated Ronaldo on his achievement and highlighted the fact he could boast a superior goals-to-game ratio to Suarez.

"For Cristiano Ronaldo the individual awards just keep coming," the statement read. "With La Liga now over, the Portuguese managed an average of more than one goal per game after finding the net 31 times in 30 matches to make him the championship's top goal-scorer. He also topped the list in Europe, where he will share the Golden Shoe with Luis Suarez, who scored the same number of goals as the Real Madrid player, but having played two more matches in the Premier League."

Ronaldo has also already broken the single-season record for Champions League goals -- with 16 goals in 10 games so far -- and could add to that tally should he be fit to play in Saturday's final in Lisbon.
