Gareth Bale aiming for Treble

Gareth Bale has targeted a treble of Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies in his first season at Real Madrid.

Rigg: Ancelotti's first chance of Madrid silverware

Last summer’s 101 million euro signing from Tottenham has recently returned to fitness and scored in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Villarreal as Madrid went joint top of the Primera Division. The Wales international then won a penalty on Tuesday as Atletico Madrid were seen off 5-0 on aggregate to set up a clasico Copa del Rey final against Barcelona in April.

Speaking ahead of his side’s upcoming Champions League last-16 clash with Schalke, Bale, 24, told UEFA’s Champions Matchday magazine that the Treble has to be the aim for a club as big as Madrid.

“Of course, this is the best club in the world, where you must win many trophies and every game,” Bale said. “We are working to win games, in all the competitions. I hope we can win the Champions League this season. It is great to be able to win nearly every game.”

Bale said that former Manchester United man Cristiano Ronaldo has been really useful in helping him to settle at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in recent months.

“[Ronaldo] is a great teammate and friend,” he said. “He always gives me lots of advice, and is helping me a lot. He was my idol before I knew him, and much more now. Thanks to him everything is being much easier for me. We can be a great partnership on the field.”

Bale added that life in Madrid is getting easier as he puts more time in to learning the local language.

“I thought it was going to be easier, but bit by bit I am learning the language,” Bale said. “It is vital for me to learn to speak Spanish well to feel more integrated. My teammates help me to feel comfortable.”
