Dos Santos could leave Barcelona

Mexico midfielder Jonathan dos Santos has voiced his frustration at the lack of playing time given to him by Barcelona coach Tata Martino and said he could consider leaving on loan.

Jonathan dos Santos is determined to prove his worth at Barcelona
Dos Santos is frustrated about his lack of first-team minutes.

Dos Santos, 23, told Radio Catalunya: "I'm surprised the manager [Martino] told me to stay because I had already set up [a loan] with Real Sociedad."

But he stressed that his desire was to "stay in Barcelona and triumph here".

Dos Santos, who has had only 16 minutes of first-team football this season, said he had discussed a loan move to Sociedad with fellow Mexican Carlos Vela in August.

He explained: "My dream is to play in the World Cup next year, but if I don't have the minutes with Barca I will have to entertain the idea of going into the transfer market this winter.

"It's not easy. I have been almost a year without playing many minutes, and because of this it is difficult that I get called to the [national] team. [Barca] knows my intentions. If I have the minutes I would stay, if not…"

Despite his comments, Dos Santos said he was "happy" overall and added: "Tata has put his faith in me and I have faith in him.

"My chance is going to come, and when it does I hope to be at 100 percent. I am still young and I know I have to be ready. The manager has shown faith in the youth, but has told me clearly that I should be aware of the team I’m on and the players who are ahead of me."
