Copa del Rey final set for Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano stadium

The Wanda Metropolitano will host the Copa del Rey final in April.

Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano stadium will host the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Sevilla on April 21, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Monday.

Representatives from Barca and Sevilla met with the RFEF on Monday to finalise plans for the final, which will be played earlier this season because of the World Cup in the summer.

Both clubs agreed that Atletico's new home, which has a capacity of 67,829, should be the venue for the game, with Real Madrid having already declared the Santiago Bernabeu unavailable.

Diario Sport had suggested Barca would try to get the fixture moved to a different date because the first leg of the Champions League semifinal is scheduled just three days later.

Barca and Sevilla both remain in the competition and could still be involved at the semifinal stage, but with a lack of alternative options they have agreed to stick with the April 21 date pencilled in by the RFEF at the start of the season.

As a result of the cup final taking place that weekend, Barca's league game against Villarreal, Sevilla's match with Madrid and Atletico's clash with Real Betis will all be moved to the beginning of May.

Barcelona are appearing in their fifth consecutive Copa del Rey final and have lifted the trophy in each of the last three seasons. In total, they have won it 29 times, more than any other side in Spain.

As for Sevilla, it will be their fourth domestic cup final in 11 years and their 17th final in all competitions since 2006. They have won it five times, most recently in 2010.

It's a repeat of the 2016 final, which Barca won 2-0 after extra-time thanks to goals from Jordi Alba and Neymar.
