La Cultural loanee Jose Leon thanks Real Madrid for waiving clause

La Cultural Leonesa loanee Jose Leon says he is happy to get the chance to fulfil his boyhood dream after parent club Real Madrid gave him permission to play in the Copa del Rey game at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Madrid include clauses when youngsters are loaned out to prevent them facing their parent club, with Marcos Llorente at Alaves, Denis Cheryshev at Sevilla and Pedro Leon at Getafe among those subject to the restriction in recent years.

However, lifelong Madrid fan Jose Leon, 21, will be permitted to represent the third-tier club in Wednesday night's Copa del Rey round-of-32 second leg at the Bernabeu after the European champions agreed not to enforce the clause.

"I'm very happy to be able to play at the Bernabeu," the defender told Marca. "I want to thank Real Madrid who have given me the opportunity to do something which has been my dream since I was a kid."

Jose Leon is hoping he will get the chance to play at the Bernabeu in Wednesday's Copa del Rey game.

However, it remains unclear whether he will be selected for the match.

The former Spain under-19 international has just returned from a serious injury, meaning he has missed his club's entire Copa run so far, including the 7-1 defeat in Leon in last month's first leg.

"The boss will decide if I play or not, but it has been my teammates who have got us this far," he said. "They deserve to play the game more than I do."

News of Madrid's decision -- which came after the issue was discussed by local media outlets, including Cadena Ser's "El Larguero" radio show -- came in a La Cultural club statement.

"La Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa S.A.D informs that Real Madrid CF have communicated to us that they will not enforce the clause in the loan contract that means Jose Leon could not play if both teams met," the statement read.

In this case, the Bernabeu hierarchy insisted on the clause as La Cultural play in the third tier alongside Madrid's Castilla reserve side and are promotion rivals.

At the moment, La Cultural -- who have Qatari owners -- are top of their regional division, unbeaten all season, while Castilla are eighth in their table, just outside the playoff spots.

Last weekend, Madrid's reserve side lost 1-0 at home to minnows Majadahonda, who were unable to play their on-loan Castilla player Alvaro Fidalgo.
