Barcelona forward Luis Suarez injury doubt for Athletic Copa del Rey final

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez remains a fitness worry just four days ahead of Saturday's Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao.

Suarez, 28, has become a key player for Barca since his €80 million arrival from Liverpool last summer, forming an all-South American attacking trio alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar which has contributed a combined 117 goals this season.

The Uruguay international has however not played since being substituted at half-time during the Champions League semifinal second leg at Bayern Munich on May 12.

The hamstring issue did not seem too serious at the time, but Suarez has subsequently missed Barca's last two La Liga games.

And the latest fitness bulletin from the Catalan club says Suarez, along with defender Jeremy Mathieu, were unable to take a full part in training on Monday.

"After a rest day on Sunday, the FC Barcelona squad returned to work on Monday morning with Saturday's cup final on their minds," the statement read. "The Tito Vilanova field at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper was the venue and the full team was present, although Luis Suarez and Jeremy Mathieu did separate exercises to the rest of the group.

"Luis Enrique also called on the services of five players from Barca B, namely Munir el Haddadi, David Babunski, Edgar Ie, Joan Campins and Javier Fernandez 'Bicho.'"

Speaking after Saturday's 2-2 draw at home to Deportivo La Coruna on the final day of the Liga season, Barca coach Luis Enrique said that Suarez's fitness was improving, yet he could not yet say when the No. 9 would be ready to return to action.

Besides Saturday's Copa final against Athletic at the Camp Nou, the Blaugrana club also have the Champions League final against Juventus in Berlin on June 6 to prepare for with a potential Treble-winning season on the cards.
