Derbi clashes disappoint Del Bosque

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has said he did not like clashes between players including potential international teammates Alvaro Arbeloa and Diego Costa in Real Madrid's 3-0 Copa del Rey semifinal first leg win over Atletico Madrid.

Some Madrid players appeared to target Costa -- who had scored as Atletico won on their previous two visits to the Bernabeu -- in a bad-tempered derbi.

Pepe was booked after a running first-half battle with the striker, while TV stills showed Arbeloa standing on his ankle as the pair tussled in the penalty area while awaiting a set-piece.

Brazil-born Costa and right-back Arbeloa are likely to be international colleagues at next summer’s World Cup finals, and Del Bosque told AS he had not enjoyed watching what happened.

"There were incidents and things in the derbi that I did not like. I know this is football, it can happen -- but I did not like it," he said.

"Each player should just worry about playing, performing at their best, defending their team. There were confrontations and behaviour that were not appropriate."

Costa has yet to make his debut for La Roja, with injury having ruled him out of November’s friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.

Meanwhile, Atletico’s centre-half Joao Miranda, also Brazil-born, has claimed he has been sounded out about playing for Spain, who did not realise he already has seven caps for his home country.

The 29-year-old told ESPN Brasil that an approach had been made in recent weeks, but added: "I did not have that possibility."

Miranda featured for Brazil at the 2009 Confederations Cup when still a Sao Paulo player, but does not appear to be in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup plans.
