Vicente del Bosque still best man for Spain - Pep Guardiola

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has said Spain boss Vicente del Bosque remains the best man for the job, backing the team to do well at next summer's European Championship in France.

Del Bosque, now 64, guided Spain to wins at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 but then oversaw La Roja's shock group exit at last summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Despite some stumbles along the way, Spain are currently well placed to qualify for Euro 2016, and can seal their place for the tournament in this week's games against Luxembourg in Logrono and Ukraine in Kiev.

Speaking at a UEFA coaching course held at the Spanish FA's headquarters in Madrid, Guardiola said that Del Bosque, whose contract runs until the end of Euro 2016, remained the right man for the job.

"There is no better coach for Spain than Vicente Del Bosque," Guardiola said in AS. "The team will continue at a high level, just like in recent years.

"This generation has taken a step forward, something that we in this world really appreciate."

Guardiola's presentation at the event was entitled "Leadership for elite coaches" and included advice on how to use videos to help players pick up useful ideas.

The former Barcelona coach also gave some insight into the value of training for helping players to learn new "tactical concepts."

"I like specialist players and adaptable ones too," he said. "The mental aspect is more important than the physical. What is not trained is forgotten. You learn from tactical work while playing, because the game is the real thing. The training is about making decisions. By training we convince the players about tactical concepts."

Other speakers at the 2nd UEFA Licence Formation course this week have included UEFA technical director Ioan Lupescu, former Italy and AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, Valencia coach Nuno Espiritu Santo, Sevilla boss Unai Emery and Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
