MADRID -- Angel Maria Villar says he will seek another term as the president of the Spanish football federation.

The 65-year-old former Athletic Bilbao player has headed the federation since 1988, and has won six straight presidential elections.

Villar says he "has been asked to run" in the election, to be held in 2016.

Villar is widely reported to be under investigation by the FIFA ethics committee for his conduct in the 2018-2022 World Cup bid contests.

Villar was named the first vice president of UEFA this year, making him the second highest authority in European football's governing body behind president Michel Platini.

Spain has won the World Cup, two European Championships, and an Olympic gold medal in men's football under his watch.
