Sergio Ramos could miss Spain's Euro 2016 qualifiers with calf injury

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos will face tests on a calf injury on Monday to determine whether he is fit for Spain's Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Luxembourg next week.

Ramos, 28, was substituted at half-time during Madrid's 5-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday though he hopes to recover in time for the trip to Bratislava on Thursday.

"Some problems but looking forward to be with my national team," Ramos wrote on his official Twitter page.

However, Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti is less confident of the Spaniard's fitness and believes that it could be risky for him to feature for Vicente del Bosque's side.

"Sergio had a problem in his right calf," said the Italian on Sunday. "He wasn't comfortable. Tomorrow he will have tests and we will evaluate it with the national team."

The 122-time capped international is one of only three central defenders named in La Roja's 23-man squad along with Barcelona's Gerard Pique and Napoli's Raul Albiol.

Should he fail to recover in time, Barcelona's Marc Bartra or Athletic Bilbao's Mikel San Jose could be called up to deputise.

Spain currently top Euro 2016 qualifying Group C after a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Macedonia in their opening game.
