James Ward Prowse agrees new five-year Southampton contract - sources

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has agreed a new five-year contract with the club, sources have told ESPN FC.

Ward-Prowse, 20, has made 12 Premier League appearances for the Saints this season, creating six goals as Ronald Koeman's side sit third in the table.

Sources have told ESPN FC that the new deal -- which has yet to be signed -- is set to keep the midfielder at St Mary's until the summer of 2020, and will fend off growing interest from top Premier League clubs with Ward-Prowse fast-becoming an influential player of Koeman's squad.

The England under-21 international has been at the club since eight years old, making his first-team debut on the opening day of the 2012-13 season.

The midfielder played in the south coast club's opening five games of the current campaign before fracturing his foot against Swansea on Sept. 20. He returned to action against Burnley on Dec. 13 and has featured in every league game since then.

Ward-Prowse has completed a full 90 minutes on four occasions this season -- in an opening-day defeat to Liverpool and in victories over Arsenal, Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

The Saints have won eight and drawn two of the 12 games in which he has featured, highlighting his growing impact at St Mary's.
