Fraser Forster says Southampton are set to bounce back quickly

Southampton's remarkable start to the season has gone slightly off kilter lately, but Fraser Forster believes the squad's "frightening" togetherness makes a return to winning ways imminent.

An unparalleled summer talent drain led to a lot of doom and gloom around St Mary's, yet Ronald Koeman has confounded the doubters by overseeing Saints' best-ever start to a top-flight season.

Southampton sit third in the Premier League after 14 matches, although Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal means they have now gone three games without a win.

It had looked for the most part like Saints would be leaving north London with at least a point, only for Alexis Sanchez to score late on with Saints reduced to 10 men due to injury.

"It was very disappointing, but we take the positives and we move on," Forster said after a performance which saw him deservedly named man of the match.

"They've got top quality players. From back to front we worked hard and all did our best for the team, but were probably just missing that little bit of luck that you need in football.

"Obviously, it was cruel to concede late on, but there was a lot we could take from the game and if we play like that on Monday night at home it will be a very good game."

Monday's match brings with it another tough test for Saints, with Louis van Gaal's Manchester United arriving on the south coast looking to condemn them to a third straight defeat.

"We'll be full of confidence," Forster said of their approach. "We can take so many positives from the game at Arsenal and if we can play like that against a lot of teams we will pick up points.

"It's just important we believe in ourselves. The manager does. We're so together as a club that it's frightening. It's just important that we hold our heads up high and move on."

A positive result on Monday against one of the Premier League's traditional powerhouses would be an important marker for Saints.

Koeman's men have only been beaten four times in all competitions during their remarkable start, yet those reverses have come against Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The latter two have come in the past week and Forster wants to ensure they do not end a tricky three-game spell without a point.

"It would be disappointing," the England goalkeeper said. "We've had a fantastic start, though, and let's remember we can kind of go into these games and really try and stamp our authority on them.

"Coming to the Emirates is always going to be tough -- the way they play when they're at home -- but if we can play like we did tonight at home ourselves on Monday night it will be a very tough game for Man United.

"It's just important we concentrate on ourselves and stamp our authority on the game and just try and show what we've done in spells lately, but for the first 10 games of the season."
