Rann: Saints collapse

Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that the Japan international defender, 25, damaged knee ligaments in training.

"I went through a similar situation and injury, and I went on to play at the World Cup," Pochettino is reported as saying by BBC Sport.

"Maya has a problem with his knee ligaments, so we expect he'll be out for six weeks."

Yoshida has made 14 appearances for Southampton in all competitions this season. Internationally he has been capped 35 times by Japan and captained them to a fourth-place finish at the London Olympics in 2012.
