Boruc fit to start, claims Pochettino

Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc is fit to face Manchester United in the Premier League, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Artur Boruc has been a key part of Southampton's defensive strength this season.

The Poland international was dropped for his country’s 2-0 defeat against England for Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny following claims of a hamstring injury.

However, Pochettino says that Boruc is not injured and will retain his place in the Saints side as they attempt to continue a run that has seen them concede just two goals in the league this season to sit in fourth place.

"Artur is okay," Pochettino said. "There is some news that has come out, which is not true, regarding his fitness. He is fine.

"He has been training for three days. Today he has been training well and tomorrow we hope he will be training well and that he will be perfect for Saturday’s game."

Pochettino also said that left-back Luke Shaw is expected to return to action after withdrawing from England under-21 duty through illness.

United begin the day in ninth place but can move within a point of Southampton in fourth with a win at Old Trafford on Saturday. While Southampton have lost just once this campaign, and beaten Liverpool at Anfield, David Moyes' side have already lost three of their opening seven fixtures.
