South African Premier Soccer League side SuperSport United have announced the signing of Nigerian defender Azubuike Egwuekwe on Thursday.

The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Pretoria-based side after leaving Swedish outfit KuPS last week.

Egwuekwe was part of the Nigeria squad that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title on South Africa soil, and also featured in the team that travelled to the country for the 2014 African Nations Championship.

He has largely been home-based for most of his career, turning out for local sides Nasarawa United, Yerima Strikers and most notably Warri Wolves.

The powerfully-build Egwuekwe will add to the competition for central defensive positions at the club, with the trio of Clayton Daniels, Morgan Gould and Tefu Mashamaite all experienced PSL campaigners.
