Micho in, Manyisa out at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates have announced the return of coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic, a day after Kjell Jonevret resigned, and confirmed that Oupa Manyisa will join Mamelodi Sundowns.

KweseESPN reported last week that Sredojevic would was set to return to Pirates more than 10 years after his spell in charge, a move which came a step closer to reality when he resigned from his post as Uganda national team coach at the weekend.

Pirates owner Irvin Khoza has now confirmed that Sredojevic will take the helm for the 2017-18 season.

"We welcome back Milutin Sredejovic, coach Micho. A man who's integrity I respect," Khoza told reporters at a media briefing on Thursday. "When he left, he left graciously. Now, he comes back with a great record and experiences throughout the continent."

Khoza hinted at potential changes to the rest of the technical team too, placing the futures of assistants Benson Mhlongo and Harold Legodi under threat, as well as goalkeeper coach Rowen Fernandez.

"We will also announce his technical support staff after further discussions," Khoza said.

Sredojevic enjoyed a poor spell in his first tenure at Pirates between June 2006 and January 2007, but has gone on to find success in various roles as he matured as a coach.

The 47-year-old qualified Uganda for the 2017 African Nations Cup finals, and was also praised for the work he did with Rwanda before that.

In club football he had a successful three-year spell with St George in Ethiopia, leading them to three consecutive league titles between 2008 and 2010. He also won the Sudan Premier League with Al-Hilal.

Pirates boss Khoza said the club is still looking at acquiring "one or two" signings before the close of the window, having confirmed that stalwart midfielder Oupa Manyisa was leaving the team for African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

It ends a nine year stay for Manyisa at Pirates, where he made 240 starts. Manyisa captained the team last season but failed to find form in a side that was struggling as a whole and finished 11th in the PSL, their worst finish in 30 years.

"Oupa Manyisa will be joining Sundowns," Khoza announced. "He has an unbelievable record with Pirate.s. It is not an easy decision but in the best interest of the player. There are still a few details to finalise."

Manyisa is also a Bafana Bafana international, though he has not featured for the national team since winning the last of his 27 caps against Ghana in October 2016.
