PSL wrap: Sundowns close the gap as Wits and CT City draw

Mamelodi Sundowns closed the gap on Premiership leaders Cape Town City to just two points following a 1-0 victory against SuperSport United on Wednesday night.

The Brazilians got the winner seven minutes from time via a glancing Hlompho Kekana header, with veteran playmaker Teko Modise supplying the assist.

It means Pitso Mosimane's men complete the double over SuperSport, having thumped them 5-0 in the reverse fixture just last week.

Sundowns are now on 44 points from 22 matches, two behind City, who were held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Bidvest Wits in Cape Town. Phakamani Mahlambi gave the visitors a fifth-minute lead from the penalty spot, but Tshepo Gumede ensured a share of the spoils with a 71st-minute header.

In the evening's other game, Polokwane City won for the first time in 11 League outings, beating Platinum Stars 1-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Thapelo Tshilo netted the only goal midway through the first half to move City up to sixth spot, while Platinum Stars remain 11th.
