FIFA representative Phillip Chiyangwa says he has brokered a peace agreement between South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan and the man who would unseat him, Ace Ncobo.

Chiyangwa, who is also the president of COSAFA, met with the two parties on Wednesday night and says an agreement is now in place that Ncobo won't oppose Jordaan in the elections, slated for March 24, but now pushed to a later date.

As part of that agreement an electoral commission must be set up six months before elections can be held, this after South Africa's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) withdrew from the process earlier this month citing a conflict with the provisions of the SAFA statutes.

"SAFA will elect an electoral committee before the elections can take place," Chiyangwa said at a press conference on Thursday.

"Danny Jordaan and Ace Ncobo are both celebrated in SA football. I had a meeting with SAFA and it has led to this scenario. There is an agreement that has been signed by both parties.

"It brings closure to the dispute that had arisen. This was the first time I met Ace. He is a good guy who made it clear he is not interested in the presidency. I don't want there to be fighting in any associations. My job here was to resolve any fights, that's my mandate."

Ncobo, a former referee, and another pretender to the throne, Chief Nonkonyana, had threatened to interdict the elections if they went ahead as they felt they were unconstitutional given that they were due to be held in September, but hurried forward to March.

Nonkonyana has also been barred from standing for office as he is not a member of the SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC).

He was previously vice-president of the organisation, but was booted out after revealing the mandate of then Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund to the media.

Former Bafana international Lucas Radebe, ex-coach Shakes Mashaba and businessman Tokyo Sexwale were also barred from standing as they are not part of the NEC either.
