South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United have announced an overhaul of their squad, naming 10 new signings on Monday to go with two others already unveiled by the club.

The number is still modest compared to the 2016-17 season, when Chippa made 28 signings through the campaign -- some of whom, like striker Bongani Ndulula, never made it onto the pitch.

Headlining the arrivals unveiled on Monday is striker Moeketsi Sekola, who has been spared a season in the National First Division after arriving on loan from relegated Highlands Park.

Sekola -- Absa Prmiership top scorer in the 2014-15 season -- signed a pre-contract with Highlands in January, but watched as his new club was relegated to the second tier.

There is also a return from Orlando Pirates for Nigerian defender James Okwuosa, while the capture of Maritzburg United midfielder Kurt Lentjies was also confirmed.

Also making his way to Port Elizabeth from Pirates is midfielder Mahlatse Makudubela, while Samuel Julies is a signing from Mamelodi Sundowns having never quite lived up to his enormous early potential.

One of the more intriguing acquisitions is that of midfielder Mlungisi Mbunjana, who has two Bafana Bafana caps to his name and finally gets a shot at the top division. He played for Chippa coach Dan Malesela while the pair were together at Cape Town All Stars in the NFD.

Mbunjana is joined by another two All Stars midfielders, Stanley Makgoka and Phetso Maphanga, as well as defender Gerald Modisane from the same club.

Malesela will also have Zitha Macheke back from a loan spell at last season's NFD champions Thanda Royal Zulu, while Xolani Maholo has been promoted from the development team.

Chippa had previously announced the capture of winger Mark Mayambela from Ajax Cape Town and Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo.
