South Africa coach Stuart Baxter is likely to ring the changes for Tuesday's friendly international with Zambia at the Moruleng Stadium with a number of their heroes from Uyo battling with injury.

Centre-back Erick Mathoho, striker Tokelo Rantie, playmaker Keagan Dolly and attacking midfielder Themba Zwane are all likely to be missing against Chipolopolo, with PSL top scorer Lebogang Manyama set to captain the side.

Bafana Bafana are basking in their 2-0 African Nations Cup qualifier victory over Nigeria on Saturday, a first ever win over the Super Eagles in a competitive game.

Zambia were surprise 1-0 losers at home to Mozambique on Saturday to continue their poor recent run that has left them with just two wins in their last 18 games.

By contrast, South Africa are now unbeaten in their last 18 games and the mood around the national team has been lifted considerably by the result in Nigeria.

In Mathoho's absence, Baxter has confirmed that he will hand Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho a first cap alongside Rivaldo Coetzee in central defence, with Thulani Hlatshwayo dropping to the bench.

"Tower [Mathoho] will be out, partly because he had a concussion before he came on camp and then he also had a smack on his shoulder," Baxter told reporters on Monday.

"So we'll have a young pairing - the skipper [Hlatshwayo] will be on the bench - I can give you that much. We'll have Lorenzo and Rivaldo. It will be an interesting pairing playing against a strong Zambia team. Can they cope? We'll see."

Baxter said after the Nigeria win that he would be fielding an experimental team.

"It's a chance to showcase the future of South African football, and to play youngsters to see what they can offer. Let's see what [Abbubaker] Mobara, Percy [Tau] and Lorenzo can do together and bring some experience to help them along," Baxter said.

"Winning is important to me, but is it important for the country if one player gets 100 caps and another is still on six?

"I know I will take stick if we lose, but at least I know I am doing the right thing. People must know where we are coming from so they can understand our decisions. The important thing is we need to have everyone's buy-in, even if not everyone will agree with us."

In 17 previous meeting with Zambia, both sides have five wins each and there have been seven draws.
