Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl dismisses Manchester City links

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl has said he has no plans to leave amid reports linking him with a move to Manchester City.

Weigl, 20, has been linked with a €25 million switch to the Etihad Stadium but told Bild: "I really don't plan on leaving Borussia. It's just not an issue for me.

"I can only stress that I am under contract at BVB until 2019, and I still want to achieve a lot with this club."

BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said he believed Weigl "will play for us for a long time."

Less than a year ago, Weigl was involved in a successful battle against relegation from German football's second tier with his old club 1860 Munich.

Dortmund signed the Germany under-21 international for a reported €2.5 million last summer, and he quickly impressed with his composure and distribution in a holding midfield role.

Outgoing Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola said in October that he was "stoked about Weigl" -- and with the Catalan tipped to take over at City, reports have suggested Weigl will be an early target.

Zorc, meanwhile, has kept a low profile since the club's winter training break in Dubai, and is believed to be on the hunt for new signings.

BVB fans have speculated about his whereabouts, with some asking on Twitter: "Where is Michael Zorc?"
