Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson's West Ham loan to be renewed - sources

West Ham United are set to win the race to sign Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on loan, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Gunners are set to hand the 23-year-old a new deal before allowing him to go out on loan next season so he can play regular first-team football.

Jenkinson excelled in a season-long loan at West Ham last term, and a number of clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in the full-back.

Sunderland had been hoping to land him after agreeing a loan fee with the Gunners, but it is believed the former Charlton youngster would rather stay in London.

That has paved the way for West Ham to bring him back to Upton Park, with co-chairman David Gold confirming the club would like to do so. Talks are believed to be advanced.

Jenkinson is expected to resolve his future in the next few days.
