Arsenal women have signed midfielder Victoria Pelova from Ajax, the clubs announced on Friday.

The news comes a day after Jordan Nobbs left the club for Aston Villa, and head coach Jonas Eidevall wasted little time in installing a replacement.

Having caught the eye when she featured for the Netherlands squad at the 2017 U19 European Championships, Pelova slowly began to carve out a space for herself in the senior squad. She has earned 31 senior caps and was selected for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as well as last year's European Championships.

Although it would take Pelova until 2021 to fully break into the Dutch midfield, she continued to hone her craft at Ajax, having moved from ADO Den Haag in 2019.

She made 66 appearances for Ajax, scoring 11 goals.

Although only Vivianne Miedema remains at Arsenal, the north London club has had a strong Dutch contingent in their Women's Super League era having boasted Danielle van de Donk, Dominque Janssen, Sari van Veenendaal and Jill Roord -- a note Pelova emphasised when speaking to the club after signing.

"I've always admired this club and dreamt of following in the footsteps of some of the great Dutch players who have worn the shirt," she said. "I can't wait to get going and start contributing to the team."

Pelova becomes the fourth signing for Arsenal this season with much of the reshaping work under Eidevall completed last season.

The 23-year-old has previously attributed a youth career spent playing alongside boys in her development and ability to shield the ball whilst launching attacks.

Eidevall said: "It's fantastic news that we've signed Victoria. I think she's one of the most exciting young players in the game and she will bring added dynamism and energy to our midfield. I'm looking forward to working with Victoria and I think our supporters are going to love watching her in an Arsenal shirt."

Arsenal are second in the WSL with 24 points from nine matches ahead of the league's restart on Jan. 14.
