Ex-Italy and Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi joins Real Salt Lake

Herculez Gomez and Alejandro Moreno make the case for 2019 champions Seattle to win another MLS Cup in 2020.
Major League Soccer has released an all-new official anthem composed by world-renowned musician Hans Zimmer.

Real Salt Lake has signed former Manchester United and Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi, the club announced on Thursday.

Rossi, who was born and raised in the United States, has never played in MLS.

"It feels great to now be a part of Real Salt Lake," Rossi, who had been a free agent, said in a team statement. "I can't wait to step onto the pitch and help RSL achieve all the goals we've set this year.

"For me, MLS has been growing every year and has produced an exciting product. I'm lucky enough to have RSL be my first contact in the league during this process. The club's respect and kindness towards me is something I appreciate immensely. I can't wait to see and meet the fans and immerse myself in the RSL culture. Along with the rest of the team, I can't wait to begin this season and enjoy the journey together."

The 33-year-old has played at a number of European clubs, including Villarreal, Celta Vigo, Fiorentina, Parma, Newcastle and Levante among others. He made his pro debut with United as a 17-year-old in 2004 and has scored 128 goals in 336 matches across all competitions.

"Giuseppe's resume speaks for itself," said team general manager Elliot Fall. "He brings an impressive level of international experience to an already talented and cohesive roster.

"Watching him in preseason it's clear he has a lot to offer to our club. He has handled himself immaculately off the field and has fit in seamlessly with the group and has already served as a mentor for the young guys on our team."

Real Salt Lake opens their 2020 MLS campaign on Saturday against Orlando City (6 p.m. ET on ESPN+).
