Rose joins Newcastle on loan from Tottenham for rest of season

England left-back Danny Rose has joined Newcastle on loan from Tottenham for the rest of the campaign.

Rose had not featured in any of Tottenham's last four matches in all competitions since starting the 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

The 29-year-old, who joined Spurs from Leeds in 2007, has 29 England caps and returns to the north east, where he spent the 2012-13 season on loan at Newcastle's rivals Sunderland. That season, Rose was named Sunderland's Young Player of the Year.

Rose also represented England at the 2018 World Cup and Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games.

"It's a great honour for me to be here," said Rose."I'm so grateful that the manager [Same Bruce] has brought me in and I'm looking to repay him in every way I can as soon as I'm playing.

"Newcastle is one of the biggest clubs in England. I spoke to the manager last night and he told me there were 50,000 fans here at the weekend against Oxford. You can't go wrong with that kind of passion and support from the fans, and it's something I'm looking forward to."

Bruce said: "It's been clear that we've needed some help in the left-back position, so we're absolutely delighted to get a player of Danny's calibre through the door."

Newcastle sit 14th in Premier League table, seven points above the relegation zone.
