Sources: Man Utd confident De Gea will pen deal

Paul Mariner and Steve Nicol can't believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering Paul Pogba for Manchester United's captaincy.
Paul Pogba reportedly wants to leave Manchester United, but Mark Ogden explains why he might need to wait it out at Old Trafford for one more year.
If Romelu Lukaku leaves Manchester United this summer, Mark Ogden says it could give Alexis Sanchez a chance to revive his career at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are growing increasingly confident David De Gea will sign a new long-term contract once they return from their summer tour, sources have told ESPN FC.

United have offered the goalkeeper fresh terms in June in an effort to break the deadlock and, while negotiations are still ongoing, there is optimism De Gea will sign a five-year deal worth in excess of £350,000-a-week.

- Who has qualified for Europe from the Premier League?
- When does the transfer window close?

It will bring to an end more than 18 months of talks and removes the risk that United could lose one of the best goalkeepers in the world for nothing at the end of next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are preparing for the new campaign in Australia before heading to Singapore, China, Norway and Cardiff and there is an expectation De Gea will put pen to paper after they return.

Sources have told ESPN FC that the 28-year-old, who has been tracked by Paris Saint-Germain this summer, has sought assurances from United chiefs about the future of the club after they missed out on a place in the Champions League.

De Gea has made it clear he want to be part of a team capable of challenging for the Champions League having only ever reached the quarterfinals during his eight years at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up for United's game against Leeds on Wednesday.

Violence marred the last fixture between the two teams in the League Cup in 2011 at Elland Road and there was isolated incidents of tension between rival sets of fans in Perth on Sunday night.
