Arsenal boss Unai Emery avoids Aaron Ramsey contract questions amid uncertain future

LONDON -- Arsenal coach Unai Emery said his focus was only on the team after being asked about Aaron Ramsey's contract situation on Friday.

On Thursday, a source told ESPN FC that contract talks between Wales international Ramsey and the club have broken down, meaning he could leave on a free transfer when his deal expires next summer.

Emery has said he wants Ramsey to sign a new deal and views the midfielder as a key part of his team, but did not comment when asked on Friday whether he had stressed that desire to club officials.

"There are three elements, three aspects [to the contract situation]," Emery said. "One is the player, and also the player with their family and representatives. The other is the club and the team.

"My focus is always on the team. My focus is preparing with the players and only thinking about the match tomorrow [against Watford].

"Each player has individual aspects to work on or to speak with the club [about], but my aspect is only to think about the matches and to speak with the players, for giving us the best performance and to help the collective."
