Francesco Totti says Roma had no choice but to accept Liverpool's €62.5 million offer for Alisson. The Brazilian was the standout goalkeeper in Serie A last season and this deal means the Giallorossi are now in the market for a replacement. But Totti, who now works as a sporting director for the club, insists they are looking to spend the money on improving the overall quality of the squad. "We could not refuse such an offer," he said. "The figures on the transfer market have changed -- it's the first time such money has been spent for a goalkeeper and you can't say no. "I'm sorry because we've lost one of the best goalkeepers in the world and now we need to build a squad without him. "Roma are building a young squad, with an eye on the future. We're trying to strengthen it as soon as possible to make it more competitive." Meanwhile, Totti also had his say on the biggest transfer in Serie A history, which saw Juventus sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid in a deal worth €100m. "[Ronaldo's] extraordinary -- he and Messi are the best in the world," Totti added. "I'm happy [he's come to Italy] because he brings a lot to Italian football.
