Manchester United close to signing Lee Grant, Joel Pereira set for loan move - sources

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 35-year-old is set to complete a move to Old Trafford this week to become third choice behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero and allow Joel Pereira to leave the club on loan.

Sources have told ESPN FC that there is significant interest from clubs in Spain and Italy for Pereira, and that Sam Johnstone, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, is heading to West Brom for a fee in the region of £6.5 million.

Sources added that Grant impressed Jose Mourinho's during Stoke's 1-1 draw with United in October 2016.

He made three Premier League appearances as backup to Jack Butland last season as Stoke were relegated to the Championship and Grant's arrival is likely to mean Pereira heads out on loan after providing cover for De Gea and Romero last season.

The 22-year-old, who signed a new contract last summer, has made three appearances for the first-team and is highly rated, both at Carrington and in Portugal.

But with his senior prospects at Old Trafford limited for the foreseeable future, he will be allowed to negotiate a temporary move.

Dean Henderson, who signed a contract extension last month, has already agreed a loan move to Sheffield United.
