Montreal Impact sign defender Rudy Camacho as designated player

Rudy Camacho joins Montreal from Belgium side Waasland-Beveren.

The Montreal Impact signed French center-back Rudy Camacho as a designated player on Thursday.

Camacho, who joins MLS from Belgium's Waasland-Beveren, has inked a four-year contract after moving to the Canadian side on a free transfer. The Impact used Targeted Allocation Money to complete the deal.

"Rudy's arrival is very important for the team's central defense, even more so with the long-term injuries suffered by Zakaria Diallo and Kyle Fisher," Impact coach Remi Garde said of the 27-year-old in a club statement.

"He's a solid defender, but he's also good at starting the attack. He was quickly seduced by the challenge of MLS, despite numerous solicitations he received from other European clubs after two very good seasons in Belgium's first division."

Camacho came through the academy at French side Nancy, before making stops at Lyon-Duchere and Sedan. He joined Waasland-Beveren in the summer of 2016 and made 67 appearances in less than two years at the club.

"Rudy is a center-back who is at a very good age for a player and comes here with a good amount of experience," said Montreal technical director Adam Braz.

"With the unfortunate injuries to two of our central defenders, it was a priority to find reinforcements at the position. We are happy to welcome him into the group and look forward to his contributions on the field."

The move comes days after the Impact signed another DP, Uruguay international midfielder Alejandro Silva, from Argentine club Lanus.

Silva, 28, completed his move on Monday by signing a three-year contract.
