Chelsea eye Edin Dzeko, Emerson Palmieri deals with Roma - sources

Chelsea are confident of clinching a double deal for Roma duo Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

The pair are being targeted as Blues boss Antonio Conte looks to bring in a centre-forward to bolster his attacking options and a left-back to provide cover and competition for Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea are ready to pay €50m (around £44m) for the duo to persuade Roma to sell them before the close of the January transfer window.

The reigning Premier League champions have been linked with a host of strikers this month, but it appears former Manchester City forward Dzeko has emerged as their top target.

Dzeko has scored 12 goals for Roma so far this season, including two against Chelsea in Roma's 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge in October. He was Serie A's top scorer last season, with 29 goals as Roma finished second in the league.

Roma are reluctant to lose Dzeko, but they accept with the player turning 32 in March this transfer window offers them the best chance to cash-in on the Bosnian and Herzegovina international.

Dzeko is also amongst Roma's top earners and with the player in the final 18 months of his contract the club would not be in any position to offer a new deal on similar terms so they feel the time is right to sell him.

Left-back has been a problematic position for Chelsea this season after they missed out on Juventus defender Alex Sandro and they have turned their attentions to Palmieri.

The 23-year-old, who joined Roma from Santos in 2015, has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Roma side this season and sources have told ESPN FC that he is keen on a move to Chelsea.
