Ex-Arsenal defender Jernade Meade on Montreal Impact's radar - sources

Former Arsenal defender Jernade Meade is a target for Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Meade plays for Swedish club AFC United, but the 25-year-old's contract expires next month and his availability on a free transfer has alerted a number of clubs.

Sources said Djurgarden were keen to keep the left-back in Sweden, while several English clubs outside the Premier League are also monitoring his situation.

Impact are planning to rebuild their squad after a disappointing campaign saw them finish ninth in Eastern Conference, resulting in Mauro Biello being sacked as coach.

Meade, who spent nine years at Arsenal after joining the club at the age of 11 and made two first-team appearances, has emerged as a target, sources said.

He made his Arsenal debut in a dramatic League Cup win over Reading in 2012-13 before making his first start in a Champions League game against Olympiakos.

After leaving Arsenal in 2013, Meade spent a year at Swansea without making a first-team appearance, but has got his career back on track at AFC United.
