Everton tracking Sporting Lisbon striker Bas Dost - sources

Everton are weighing up a move for Sporting Lisbon striker Bas Dost to solve their goal-scoring problems, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

Everton need to bolster their attacking options having scored just four goals in their opening seven Premier League games, leaving them 16th in the table.

The Toffees failed to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku following his move to Manchester United, despite bringing in Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez.

Ronald Koeman is determined to sign a forward when the transfer window opens in January and he has held a long-term interest in his fellow Dutchman Dost.

Dost would fit the bill as the type of striker Koeman is seeking to bring to Goodison Park, as at 6-foot-5 he is the ideal target man to lead the line.

The 28-year-old joined Sporting Lisbon from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2016 and has scored 36 goals in 41 games in all competitions for the Portuguese club.

Everton director of football Steve Walsh watched Dost in action recently in last month's Champions League defeat to Barcelona with the striker coming off the bench for the second half.
