Manchester City have made a second bid for Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez, sources haves told ESPN FC.

City this week had a £50m bid for the Chile international rejected but have returned with a second offer which sources say in an initial £55m plus £5m in add-ons..

The Gunners have insisted all summer that Sanchez, 28, is not for sale but sources have said they will sell if they can find a suitable replacement before the transfer window shuts at 11 p.m. BST.

Raheem Sterling was mentioned as a possible makeweight in the deal but City refused to allow the England international to be part of the deal.

Sanchez is currently in Chile for their World Cup qualifier with Paraguay this evening and City have staff in South America to conclude a deal if an agreement can be reached.

The forward has been Pep Guardiola's top target all summer and ESPN FC has been told that Sanchez wants to be reunited with the Catalan coach who he worked with Barcelona.

He is entering the final year of his contract and has yet to agree to signing a contract extension.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that he wants to keep Sanchez even if he leaves for free at the end of the season.
