Liverpool in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain talks; Lemar not a priority - source

Liverpool have made contact with Arsenal over the possible transfer of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a source has told ESPN FC.

Sources told ESPN FC that Chelsea had agreed a fee with Arsenal for the sale of Oxlade-Chamberlain but the player has turned down a move to Stamford Bridge. Talks between Arsenal and Liverpool are ongoing.

Another source has told ESPN FC that Oxlade-Chamberlain has been keen on a move to Anfield to work with Jurgen Klopp for some time now.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is in the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract and there have been no suggestions he is going to commit his future to the Gunners.

Should Arsenal not sell the player this summer, they run the risk of losing for nothing upon the expiration of his contract.

Liverpool have been keen on the 24-year-old but only if a deal could be struck at the right price.

The England international has played every game of Arsenal's so far, including Sunday's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. He is currently away with the England squad preparing for their World Cup qualifier against Malta.

Meanwhile, a source has told ESPN FC that Monaco winger Thomas Lemar is not a priority for Liverpool at this stage.

Sources told ESPN FC on Monday that Liverpool have an interest in Lemar and are weighing up a bid but that they recognised the difficulty of signing the France international before the window closes on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a source said Lemar remained on Liverpool's radar but played down suggestions there had yet been a major push to sign him.
