Man City's Raheem Sterling unlikely to be in Alexis Sanchez deal - sources

Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling is unlikely to join Arsenal as part of any deal for Alexis Sanchez, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

The sources said Arsenal asked about the possibility of taking Sterling if they were to sell Sanchez to City before Thursday's deadline.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is an admirer of the England international winger and had been interested in him before he joined City from Liverpool in 2015.

However, sources close to Sterling and City told ESPN FC that Pep Guardiola is not willing to let him leave as part of a deal for Sanchez, with City preferring a straight cash purchase.

Arsenal have rejected City's opening £50m offer for Sanchez, but an improved bid is expected to be tabled before Thursday's deadline.

Sterling, currently on international duty with England, has scored twice in his last two games for City.
