Juan Foyth: Mauricio Pochettino persuaded me to join Tottenham

Juan Foyth has said he is signing for Tottenham Hotspur, telling Argentine newspaper El Dia that manager Mauricio Pochettino had convinced him to join.

Argentina under-20 defender Foyth is poised to move to Spurs from Estudiantes this week in a deal reported to be worth £8-10 million.

Spurs targeted 19-year-old Foyth in June, but their interest cooled after Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron -- a former international teammate of Pochettino -- upped the asking price following interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

But Foyth, who can play at centre-half or in midfield, said Pochettino, who has a track record of blooding young players, helped convince him to join Spurs.

"It's a club that bets on the young and I think I'm going to have a chance to play," he added.

"I also spoke with Mauricio Pochettino and I liked what he said. It's what helped me decide that Tottenham was the right place to continue my career.

"He told me to go, train and, if I deserved it, that I would play. He also told me what the club was like and what his work ethic was."

Foyth has so far only been capped by Argentina at U20 level but was recently called in for a meeting with senior coach Jorge Sampaoli, who reportedly considers him on the verge of a call-up.

"The greatest dream of every footballer is to play in the Argentine national team. But I don't want to think about that now, but to settle at Tottenham," Foyth added.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Spurs are also poised to announce the signing of PSG's Serge Aurier, if the defender's visa application is accepted.

Meanwhile, Kevin Wimmer is set to have a medical at Stoke City on Monday ahead of a £15m move from Tottenham.
