Chelsea's Jeremie Boga extends deal, joins Birmingham City on loan

Jeremie Boga has joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan deal after extending his Chelsea contract until June 2020.

The 20-year-old midfielder was handed his Premier League debut by Antonio Conte on the opening day of the season, only to be substituted after just 18 minutes following Gary Cahill's red card in a 3-2 home defeat against Burnley.

Left out of the matchday squad for Chelsea's subsequent victories over Tottenham and Everton, Boga becomes the club's 28th player to leave on loan this summer as he targets regular first-team football in the Championship.

Boga joined Chelsea's academy at 12 when his family moved to London from Marseille. He won two FA Youth Cups, the U21 Premier League and UEFA Youth League with the Blues before leaving Stamford Bridge for unspectacular loan spells at Rennes and Granada.

He has also pledged his international allegiance to Ivory Coast, earning his first cap in an African Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea in June.
