Stoke City nearing deal for Tottenham's Kevin Wimmer - source

Stoke City are closing in on a deal for Tottenham centre-half Kevin Wimmer, a source close to the London club has told ESPN FC.

Wimmer said his goodbyes to the Spurs players and staff after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Burnley, for which he was omitted from the matchday squad, and the Austrian left Wembley to travel to Stoke, who will pay £15 million for him.

West Brom also had a £15m bid accepted for Wimmer last week, but he turned down the chance to join the Baggies.

Wimmer moved to Spurs from Cologne for £4.3m in 2015 and impressed in his debut season at the club.

But he started just three league games last term and the signing of Davinson Sanchez, who made his debut against Burnley, has pushed him further down the pecking order.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Spurs are close to signing defenders Juan Foyth and Serge Aurier.
