Cristiano Ronaldo happy at Real Madrid - Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane says he will not get involved in potential talks over a new contract for Cristiano Ronaldo and maintains that he is happy with his current squad and wants no more ins or outs this summer.

Ronaldo's future has again been the subject of speculation this summer, as his frustration with his treatment both by the Spanish tax authorities and La Liga's referees has regularly been made clear.

It was claimed this week that, in response to Paris Saint-Germain's world-record signing of Neymar and Barcelona offering Lionel Messi a bumper new deal, Ronaldo, 32, had asked for a pay-rise to €40 million net a year.

Madrid captain Sergio Ramos responded to these reports by saying that "the best players in the world should be the best paid."

However, Zidane told the pregame news conference ahead of Sunday evening's La Liga clash with Valencia at the Bernabeu that he would not give an opinion on contract matters, but he was sure Ronaldo was happy with his life in Madrid.

"Money questions are not for me," Zidane said. "I can talk about the game, how we will play, well not that either [laughs]. But this is an issue for Cristiano and the club, not for me. There has been a lot of talk, but Cristiano is here, and is not leaving. This is his club, his team, his city. He is delighted with everything he has here. I have no doubts."

Madrid have been linked with a move for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe, but the 18-year-old striker now looks set to join Neymar at PSG.

Zidane has previously spoken of his admiration for Mbappe, but this time shut the door on any further ins and outs for his club during this window.

"I am happy with the team I have and the squad I have at the moment," he said. "I do not want anybody. We are ready."

More pressing for Zidane, Madrid have an issue in defence for Valencia's visit on Sunday, with Raphael Varane having again missed training with an adductor muscle problem which will also see him miss France's upcoming World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

"Varane's problem is muscular, his adductor," Zidane said. "It happened to him in the first game [of the Spanish Super Cup] against Barcelona. He has been able to train some days, rested others. But for us it is best not to take risk [against Valencia] and hope his problem improves. We can use the international break for him to recover."

With Madrid captain Sergio Ramos suspended, and youngster Jesus Vallejo also injured, versatile back-up Nacho Fernandez is the only available centre-half. Zidane suggested he would drop back one of holding midfielders Casemiro and Marcos Llorente, rather than promote youth team players Alvaro Tejero, 21, or Manu Herrera, 19, to fill the gap.

"We have four centre-halves," Zidane said. "We have the problem now that only one is available. This will happen during a season though. Casemiro and Marcos have played games in this position. We will have solutions tomorrow."

Valencia have got a draw on three of their last five visits to the Bernabeu, and beat Madrid 2-1 at Mestalla last season. Zidane said that even with his team currently flying, there was no chance they would underestimate their opponents on Sunday.

"[Valencia] are very well organised, defend well and lately have been going well," he said. "So we know the difficulties of the game. But we are motivated in all games, all opponents.

"But we know with the smallest slip in concentration, or if we do not have the right mentality, we can have problems in any game. We must go day to day, game to game, and must play well tomorrow."
