Barcelona don't fear Sergi Roberto move amid Utd, Chelsea links - sources

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto is not for sale and the club do not fear losing him despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, sources have told ESPN FC.

Mundo Deportivo reported that United have made a bid for the Spain international, while sources told ESPN FC last month that he was also a Chelsea target.

However, Barca have no intention of letting Roberto leave following the departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record deal.

That transfer was possible because of the buyout clause in Neymar's contract and United and Chelsea, like PSG, would avoid having to negotiate with Barca if they paid Roberto's €40 million release clause.

But Barcelona are not worried about the possibility of that happening and have been assured that the player has no plans to quit the Camp Nou.

Instead he is in line for a new contract that would see his buyout clause increase substantially.

Roberto, 25, signed a new deal in 2014, with the terms running until 2019, but his role in the side has dramatically changed since.

Under Luis Enrique he became a regular at right-back last season but is set to feature more prominently in midfield under Ernesto Valverde.

Roberto played a midfield role in each preseason friendly and has voiced his desire to make a permanent switch back into the middle of the pitch.
