Barcelona's Neymar due in Paris after undergoing PSG medical - source

Barcelona star Neymar is due in Paris after undergoing a Paris Saint-Germain medical in Portugal, a source has told ESPN FC.

Barca confirmed on Wednesday that Neymar had signalled his intention to leave the club and that they would demand that his €222 million buyout clause be paid in full.

Sources told ESPN FC and ESPN International that the Brazil forward then travelled to Porto to undergo his medical examination, accompanied by the former Barcelona and PSG defender Maxwell, who now works as the French club's assistant sporting director.

A deal now appears imminent, with Wagner Ribeiro -- who is no longer officially Neymar's agent but still does work for his father's company -- saying on Wednesday that PSG would trigger the clause imminently.

"They will pay Neymar's release clause today [Wednesday], so the presentation can take place at the end of the week," Ribeiro told reporters.

The source told ESPN FC that Neymar had originally been expected to arrive in Paris on Thursday afternoon but is now due in the French capital on Friday. A news conference and presentation are also expected to take place that day.

However, in the event that La Liga's refusal to accept payment for the buyout clause is overcome, a source has indicated that the Ligue 1 giants are ready to make some sort of announcement before the end of Thursday.

As previously reported, the 25-year-old last month agreed to personal terms on a five-year deal with PSG worth €30m per year after taxes.

The deal has raised questions as to how PSG plan to meet UEFA's financial fair play requirements, and French newspaper L'Equipe has reported that the Ligue 1 side may need to raise up to €70m from player sales to avoid sanctions.

The ESPN FC source said PSG's preference remains to sell Serge Aurier, Hatem Ben Arfa, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Jese Rodriguez and Blaise Matuidi this summer rather than bigger-name talents such as Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura.

Neymar is also set to take the No. 10 shirt at PSG, with previous occupant Javier Pastore to become the club's No. 27, the Argentine told Cadena SER.
