Manchester United still confident of landing Inter's Ivan Perisic - sources

Manchester United are still confident of landing Ivan Perisic this summer despite the prospect of the Croatia international winger flying out on Inter Milan's preseason tour, sources have told ESPN FC.

Perisic was given leave from a training camp in Italy to visit his dentist in Croatia on Saturday. But he is due to report back to Inter's Appiano Gentile training base on Tuesday morning before the squad fly to China.

With no deal agreed between United and the Serie A side for the 28-year-old, he is expected to travel ahead of a warm-up game with Schalke on July 21 and International Champions Cup fixtures against Lyon, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Inter are due to fly from Malpensa airport in Milan to Nanjing on Tuesday afternoon.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will not attend United's preseason game with MLS side Real Salt Lake in Sandy, Utah on Monday night after deciding to stay behind in London. He is due to join up with the tour of the United States in Houston this week ahead of the Manchester derby with Pep Guardiola's City on July 20.

United are confident Perisic wants to move to Old Trafford and that a deal will eventually go through. Inter have held firm in their valuation of €50 million, a price tag that United have so far refused to meet.

However, there is hope the Italian's resistance will be weakened once they have confirmed the signing of Keita Balde Diao from Lazio.

The Senegal international, seen in Italy as a potential replacement for Perisic, could be on the plane to China with the rest of the Inter squad on Tuesday.
