Bayern Munich loan out Serge Gnabry to Hoffenheim for the season

Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry has joined Hoffenheim on loan for the 2017-18 season.

Gnabry, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Friday, only joined the Bundesliga champions last month, arriving from Werder Bremen on a three-year deal.

Gnabry spent one season at Bremen after joining from Arsenal last summer and scored 11 goals and set up two more in 27 Bundesliga games for the club, as well as netting a hat trick on his Germany debut against San Marino last November.

"It was Serge's expressed wish to spend another year on loan in order to gain more match practice," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a club statement. "In my opinion, that's guaranteed at Hoffenheim at a high level too.

"Gnabry will return to Bayern after a year. In the name of Bayern, I wish Serge Gnabry all the best in Hoffenheim and also thank TSG for the serious and constructive talks which led to this agreement."

There were reports last summer that when Gnabry left Arsenal for Bremen, Bayern were involved in the deal. He had initially been expected to join Bayern before being loaned out to Bremen for the 2016-17 season.
