Perry Kitchen signs with Danish side Randers FC after Hearts exit

U.S. international midfielder Perry Kitchen has completed a transfer to Danish Superliga side Randers FC, the club announced on Wednesday.

Kitchen, 25, had been told by previous club Heart of Midlothian that he was free to leave following a disappointing 2016-17 season in the Scottish Premiership. He began the campaign as the team's captain, but fell out of favor after manager Robbie Neilson left for English side MK Dons back in December, and was replaced by Ian Cathro.

Kitchen started just six of the Jambos' last 16 league matches, and reports out of Scotland indicated that Hearts wouldn't receive a fee.

Randers CFO Michael Graavgard told the club's web site that Kitchen isn't "a magician who can beat five men" but one who works "stubbornly but also wisely."

All told, Kitchen made 45 league and cup appearances for Hearts. He joined the Jambos from MLS side D.C. United in March of 2016, where he made 167 league and cup appearances over five seasons for the Black-and-Red, scoring 10 goals.
