Wolfsburg midfielder Luiz Gustavo completes move to Marseille

Marseille have announced the signing of midfielder Luiz Gustavo from Wolfsburg.

L'Equipe reported that Marseille will pay €8 million to the Bundesliga club, where Gustavo has spent the last four seasons.

Announcing the signing of the 29-year-old, Marseille said he was a player of "experience, versatility and strength of character."

He won both the Champions League and a Bundesliga title during his time at Bayern Munich, lifting the DFB Pokal with Wolfsburg.

Gustavo is due to join his new teammates on their preseason training camp in Switzerland later on Tuesday. He is Marseille's second summer signing after Valere Germain joined from Monaco last month.

"Even though it's not easy to say goodbye, during the summer break the desire grew in me to try something new and get to know another country and another league," he told the official Wolfsburg website.

Olaf Rebbe, the club's sporting director, said: "We would have liked to see him here for longer. But we met his wish to leave the club because he gave it his all for Wolfsburg.

"He not only had a huge share in our success in league and the German cup, but also stepped up as a leader in difficult times last season."
