Real Madrid forward Mariano signs four-year deal with Lyon

Lyon have announced the signing of Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais after struggling to get regular playing time with Zinedine Zidane's side.

Diaz, a Dominican Republic international, only made 14 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos last season but did manage to return five goals.

He said at a press conference: "I am very happy to be here at the OL, it is one of the best in the country and even in Europe.

"I have come and it is wonderful to be part of this great club, and today I have the opportunity to demonstrate what I am worth. I have a great will.

"I am a competitive player even if I have to improve in all areas, I really want to work and help the club achieve its goals.

"I am at a big club. Lyon will win the title, go beyond Paris Saint-Germain and go further in the European Cup, I am sure that we will return to the highest level.''

The striker could be set to replace France international Alexandre Lacazette, who is reportedly an Arsenal target with a potential £45million move being touted this summer.
